what does “raising awareness” mean? it means caring, donating money, becoming informed, or keeping the people in your thoughts. it’s a little sad that some people have become so desensitized to death that they see no reason to even care about what is going on in libya. “it’s not america, so i don’t care”, “i can’t do anything, so why bother trying?”… perhaps “raising awareness” and “doing nothing” achieve the same results, but, if that’s so, what’s the hurt in bringing the issue to light?
everyone is upset with Libya and what is going on over there, but when did you guys care about what was going on in other places? for example what is going on in egypt.. When you all heard about Egypt what did you do? None of the people that i personally follow changed anything. But now since…
With me, it’s more irritation at how vocal everyone is about Libya. I understand the rage and frustration and I share it, but why Tumblr’s only up in arms about that one place is amazing. The world is so fucked up in so many places - and yes, the Mexican drug wars where hundreds die frequently for no reason is a clear example - yet no one talks about it, then suddenly Libya goes to hell and everyone cares. I mean, caring is a good thing, but apply it to everywhere. Just cos it’s Libya’s government doing it and not civilian or terrorist gangs doesn’t make it any more searing a tragedy. The Western World is still as powerless and if you’re going to hassle them over Libya, hassle them over everything else too.
Now, before anyone accuses me of doing nothing, my charitable efforts are directed towards the environment, animals, and the planet, because you can save every person in the world but you need to protect the only place you can put them first.
I know how you feel. I mean.. there are things going on in my country that i can care about. It just really makes me mad that people are all about Libya, i have nothing against them.. but still. Why did you just care about Libya? What about everywhere else.. Yeah, people are dying in Libya. But what about other places? Like you mentioned the drug wars. and it’s not only that.. they’re not cared because of the drugs. Two years ago my church went to Mexico on a missions trip, we were going to go again last year, but we couldn’t because they feared for our safety. Now, people only care about other things.. I understand that you’re trying to raise awareness for Libya… But you also need to raise awareness for other countries that are also in need.
i disagree. i think caring about something is better than caring about nothing. i think people are posting because it is getting so much media coverage. sure, it’s bad that 4 americans are dead because their yacht was hijacked… that’s terrible! but 4 is nothing compared 200 dead and 900 injured. i definitely see why you have your opinion, and you are most certainly allowed to have it, but i’m just saying that just because people aren’t americans doesn’t make them any less human (i believe before you said that you didn’t care about libya because it isn’t america and that you wouldn’t care until america gets involved)!
Tonight, I'm going to sleep knowing I will have a place to learn tomorrow, a place to worship my god, a place to call my Home. I will wake up, and know all my friends are well and healthy. I will know that my mom will be making me a warm dinner and that I will have a hot shower.
the thing that i miss the most, now that i am in orlando, is nature. both at college and home (back in ga), there were places within 15 minutes of me where i could go to relax. here, everything is busy, busy, busy. the closest nature state park is 30 minutes away, but, because of the traffic, it would probably take nearly an hour. i need the mountains. i need pretty rivers and trees and stuff.
